J9-B8 was a protocol droid variant freed by his mistress. He traveled through the Outer Rim Territories with his friend R4-W9. At some point after the Battle of Yavin, Bandin Dobah and his gang attacked the two friends to steal R4-W9 and left J9-B8 dismantled. He managed in calling for help, but it was too late for him.
