M-TD, short for "miniaturized translator droid" and nicknamed Em Teedee, was a specialized translator droid used by Lowbacca while attending Luke Skywalker's Jedi Praxeum. Like almost all Wookiees, "Lowie" was physically unable to speak Galactic Basic, and so M-TD was programmed to translate his Shyriiwook to a form his friends would understand.

The droid was built by Lowbacca's uncle Chewbacca and programmed by C-3PO after Chewbacca learned that his nephew planned on attending the Jedi Academy.
