Pelf Pachoola was a Wroonian who was the daughter of the aristocrat Fume Pachoola. She was spoiled and prone to emotional breakdowns, and marriage was arranged between her and a fiancé. By 22 BBY, Pelf and Fume, accompanied by their Kobarian swamp dogs Higgs and Twiggs, traveled aboard the luxury liner Salin Mariner to attend Pachoola's wedding at the planet Botajef.

Aboard, the Pachoolas met Hondo Ohnaka, the leader of a pirate gang who was impersonating a passenger while scoping out potential targets to kidnap and hold for ransom. At a dinner, Ohnaka became drunk, going on to divulge his plans to the other passengers and amusing Pelf with his antics, which she recounted to the oblivious, hung-over pirate the following day. Later, at lunch, Pachoola and Ohnaka witnessed a surprise exhibiton of holographic Saffa paintings, after which the Wroonian entered into a hysteric tirade of wailing and crying after she witnessed an apprentice pastry chef wearing the same dress as her bridesmaids.

Pachoola's outbursts eventually led Ohnaka to decide against selecting her as a kidnapping target, although, when the pirates finally launched their operation, the young woman began panicking and entered the escape pod, with Ohnaka being forced to eject the craft from the liner with her among the hostages. However, Pelf's fiancé refused to pay the ransom for her, and the pirate gang ended up forcing a freighter captain to transport the Pachoolas off their base world Florrum.
