R4-MS, also known as Em-Ess, was an R4 astromech droid who served in Rogue Squadron as part of the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War.
When Rogue Squadron attacked an Imperial shipyard in the Taris system, R4-MS occupied the socket of Rogue Five Ibti Myrak's T-65B X-wing starfighter. Three days later, during an attack by Draedan pirates on the Alliance Fleet in the Cilpar system, Rogue Squadron launched in their X-wings to protect the cruisers. Going against orders from Rogue Leader, Commander Luke Skywalker, Myrak decided to leave formation and chase after a pirate vessel that attempted to escape, however R4-MS warned Myrak of a pirate ambush. Fortunately for Myrak and R4-MS, Skywalker and the rest of Rogue Squadron came to their rescue and destroyed the pirates.
