Smelly was a tauntaun owned by clone trooper 1139. 1139 found the tauntaun on the planet Hoth and brought it aboard a Neimoidian shuttle that 1139's squad had stolen from Viceroy Nute Gunray. After leaving Hoth, the squad landed their stolen shuttle on the Forest Moon of Endor and 1139 took Smelly for a walk. Hoping they were friends, 1139 released Smelly from his chains, but Smelly ran off into the forest. 1139 chased after Smelly, but eventually got captured by Ewoks. Smelly then returned to free 1139 and together they helped the squad fend of Nute Gunray's attack. Afterword, the squad commander made Smelly a member of the squad.
