A leader of the Ahia-Ko known as the "first gardener of Akiva" was rumored by local legend to have planted all of the asuka trees on Akiva. The legend went on to state that after her death, she was laid to rest beneath the first of the asuka tree to sprout. Afterward the tree began to bloom red flowers instead of the standard blue.
In 3 ABY, a local farmer recited part of the legend to an offworlder named Kay Vess.
