V8-R was a masculine astromech droid who served in the Resistance Starfighter Corps during the Resistance's war against the First Order. Some members of the Resistance were superstitious about V8-R's name, and he was teased for it.
During the Resistance's attack on Starkiller Base in 34 ABY, V8-R was in the astromech socket of the T-70 X-wing starfighter flown by Resistance pilot Furillo. Almost immediately into the battle, Furillo and V8-R were killed. Later, following the Battle of Crait, astromech droid BB-8 recounted his memories of V8-R and the Battle of Starkiller Base to fellow astromech R2-D2.
