Vorn Tel-Ovis was an elderly and ornery male Human who operated a junk shop in Mos Shuuta on Tatooine during time of the Galactic Civil War. After the Trandoshan bounty hunter Trex became in need of a replacement hypermatter reactor igniter for his starship, Tel-Ovis made a deal to sell him one. Soon afterward, group of individuals on the run from the Hutt crime lord, Teemo, sought to obtain the one that Tel-Ovis promised for Trex in order to take the bounty hunter's freighter for themselves to get off-planet.
