Annexation of Tatooine

At some point between 9 BBY and 4 ABY, the Outer Rim Territories planet Tatooine was annexed by the Galactic Empire. The Empire largely remained away from Tatooine but maintained a military presence. In the years before the Battle of Yavin, Imperial patrols in the space surrounding the planet and in a number of major cities began to increase. Along with other worlds on the edge of the Empire's territory, Tatooine was not formally conquered but instead partially colonized and occupied for a large duration of the reign of the Empire. The Empire finally arrived in force in pursuit of the rebel droids C-3PO and R2-D2 in 1 BBY.
