The duel on Coruscant took place in 30 BBY in the underworld near the Temple District as a Jedi mission to hunt down the assassin and Jedi-killer Aurra Sing. The Jedi Master Peerce was chosen to lead the assignment with the Jedi Knight J'Mikel and his Padawan Xiaan Amersu in tow; the team discovered that Sing had slain several Republic Peace Officers before splitting up to cover more ground. Peerce was the first killed with J'Mikel following not long after. But Sing spared Amersu with a promise that the two would face each other again sometime in the future.
This confrontation alarmed the Jedi High Council which decided to dedicate further resources to bring Sing to justice. The Council sent a small task force to locate her not long after.
