Prior to the Invasion of Naboo, Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum sent Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas and the Chancellor's personal aide, Silman, on a mission to Oba Diah to resolve a crisis within the Pyke Syndicate. The mission led to Sifo-Dyas' death, as the Pykes were paid by the Sith Lord, Darth Tyranus, formerly the Jedi Master Count Dooku, to kill the Jedi Master as part of the Sith's plan to take control of a Clone army he had commissioned.
