Prior to the start of the Yuuzhan Vong War, Nom Anor, in disguise, hired the Mandalorian Goran Beviin to assassinate Tholote B'Leph, an important politician on the planet Ter Abbes. His death escalated tensions, resulting in a civil war on Ter Abbes that lasted for a year. The effectiveness of the Mandalorians impressed Nom Anor, who concluded that they could be valuable allies for the upcoming Yuuzhan Vong invasion.
