The winter wars were a conflict on the primitive world of Rodis in the Outer Rim Territories. The Rodisar Nilo was a general during the winter wars, having risen to that rank by bribing politicians. He was lackluster as a commander, with his staff providing any military experience. Prior to his death in 22 BBY, Nilo was kidnapped by Zygerrian slavers, who killed most of his followers when they tried to save him. The Zygerrians sold Nilo to Rattataki war barons by talking up his military exploits.
