The Boranall system was a star system located within the Doldur sector, in the Mid Rim region of the galaxy. It contained the planet Boranall and two other habitable planets, and had a population of approximately 20 billion inhabitants in the Old Republic era.

According to Darth Marr and the Minister Davidge of Imperial Logistics, the Boranall system contained three habitable planets with a total population of 20 billion inhabitants, in the Old Republic Era.

During the Second Great Galactic War, the Boranall system was under Imperial control. However, the population rebelled and took anti-Imperial actions, assisted by Republic forces.

While Minister Davidge believed the Empire should leave the system and withdraw all forces because an expanded conflict there held little strategic value and would, at best, cost 0.4% and, at worst, 0.7% of the Empire's total production value, Darth Marr chose to amplify the Imperial presence in the system. He sought to secure the system and keep the population under control, fearing that a retreat would inspire other anti-Imperial worlds and systems to rebel against the Sith Empire.

Darth Marr then sent Darth Karrid, the newly appointed member of the Dark Council, to secure an Imperial victory.
