Ablative foam

Ablative foam was a substance used to dampen impacts. Starship mechanics could install ablative foam dispensers in a ship's hold in order to protect fragile cargo from the impact of extreme maneuvers. During a skirmish with Grysk warships in 1 BBY the Steadfast, a Chiss heavy cruiser, deployed ablative foam as a response to receiving hull damage.

In 3 ABY, Kay Vess paid a mechanic a thousand credits to install ablative foam dispensers in the hold of the Trailblazer, her EML-850 light freighter.
