Ceramic shielding was a material that could be added to a starship's hold to protect its systems from ionized cargo. However, it could not protect computer systems from ionic discharges.
In 3 ABY, the Miyuki Trade League installed ceramic shielding in Kay Vess's EML-850 light freighter, the Trailblazer, to allow her to smuggle ion related cargo, such as the ion weapons favored by the Ashiga Clan.
