Pyrokinesis was a Force power that allowed a Force-user to manipulate or generate fire or fiery energy by rubbing air molecules together, producing heat through friction, or controlling existing fires.

The power could be used to manipulate and generate fire. In general, a force user typically manipulated fire from an already existing material, though a variant in which a Jedi conjured flames from the sky was known and considered to overlap with Alter Environment. Yarael Poof exemplified this, being famed for his ability to trigger fires by manipulating the molecules of combustible objects. Leia Organa Solo also demonstrated the ability to generate fire, as shown when she lit several candles through the Force—commenting that Luke Skywalker had taught her how to do so. Her twin children, Jaina and Jacen, learned to use create some kind of "flame-toy" while being held prisoner on the worldcraft Rebirth. Brakiss appeared to be a master of pyrokinesis, able to make flames dance as well as form different shapes as part of "amusing effects". He encouraged Zekk to try it out after activating a flare stick, and the boy made such an impressive start that Brakiss recommended he practice further.

In manipulation, a Force user was capable of directing and controlling an already existing flame with relative ease. In 52 BBY, Darth Sidious used the ability to kill Senator Pax Teem, by coaxing a gentle flame from a gas powered fireplace into a raging inferno. Although not directly seen doing so, a dream that Darth Vader had shortly before the Battle of Endor had Sidious creating a wall of fire separating Vader from his son, Luke Skywalker, after revealing his survival. Jedi Master Knol Ven'nari was so proficient in this ability that she was capable of controlling and redirecting an explosion, something that she did in order to save her friends, though at the cost of her life. Galen Marek evoked a firestorm at the end of his life, annihilating the Stormtroopers attacking his allies and staggering Darths Sidious and Vader a moment before his body died.

The power was neutral in nature, with both Jedi and Sith showing ability in its use. Even other Force traditions, such as the Singing Mountain Clan and Nightsisters of Dathomir, were known to use the ability. This is shown by Dresdema when she attempted to cast a spell of flame against attacking Sith. Asajj Ventress used this power to make surrounding flames part and create a path she could pass by without any injury, then let them reunite as she prepared to fight Anakin Skywalker. Teneniel Djo once used this to protect herself from incoming fire during the Battle of Dathomir, though she had only been partly successful. Vonnda Ra demonstrated this power on a lit lantern, prompting Tenel Ka Djo and Luke Skywalker to replicate the feat, if not outdo the Nightsister, in order to infiltrate the Shadow Academy.

Some dark side Force ghosts could use a freezing fire, killing victims they "touched", then condemning them to eternal spectral torment.
