The Star Wars was a filmstrip composed from colored panels of the Contemporary Motivators: Star Wars comic book, with audio provided by two cassette tapes. The panels were used without the speech bubbles and were sometimes cropped.
Like the rest of the Contemporary Motivators series, the filmstrip was released as part of a larger kit intended as a reading aid in an educational setting, featuring the comic book, worksheets and teachers' guides. StarWars.com released a video of the filmstrip, first giving it the name Old School Star Wars Filmstrip. The video is no longer on the website, but can be found in various places on the internet.
The audio narration differed from the narration of the comic. In the filmstrip, the sound effect of an ignited lightsaber is used to represent the sound of a blaster shot.
