Committee on Transportation and Public Safety

The Committee on Transportation and Public Safety was a legislative panel of the Galactic Senate in the Galactic Republic active during the Galactic War between the Republic and reconstituted Sith Empire.

In 3639 BBY, after several months of deliberation, the committee passed regulations including an adjustment to speeder license costs. It was expected that once the regulations were signed by the Supreme Chancellor in the following weeks, Tier I and II speeder license prices across the galaxy would decline significantly. To offset the loss of revenue generated by these licenses, taxes on all Tier III speeder models were significantly increased once the new regulation took effect. Critics claimed the resolution would further strain the Republic's finances while others saw it as an attempt to keep pace with a similar law passed around the same time by the empire's Imperial Transportation Authority.
