Hutt Empire

The Hutt Empire was an ancient empire in the galaxy located in modern Hutt Space ruled by the Hutt species from planet Varl and was a major galactic power before the advent of the Galactic Republic.

The power of the empire was measured primarily in its position as an economic powerhouse, it accomplished this by enslaving species it deemed valuable enough to serve it, and exterminating species it deemed undesirable. Though the Empire enforced its will primarily through economic exploitation, it was capable of mustering a tremendous military effort on occasion, especially when its existence was threatened. The most notable use case of this was during the Tionese invasion of the Empire by Xim the Despot; where the Hutts overcame the Tionese forces and preserved their domain.

After the founding of the Republic, the Empire is known to have fought alongside the nascent Republic against the Honorable Union of Desevro and Tion during the Tionese War.

After the devastating events of the Hutt Cataclysms, the Hutt Empire collapsed. Following the devastation of Varl, the Hutts relocated to Nal Hutta, and the remnants of their empire became the oligarchic Hutt Cartel.
