The Imperial General Staff was a command-level organization within the Galactic Empire consisting of high-ranking Imperial officers. Shortly prior to the rescue of Princess Leia Organa from the Death Star in 0 BBY, members included Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, General Cassio Tagge, and Admiral Conan Antonio Motti, and others.

An official military commander, Admiral Kendal Ozzel was appointed to lead Darth Vader's Death Squadron, a selection that appeased the high-ranking members of the Imperial General Staff.
