Automatic safety systems were sensor devices placed along traffic corridors in urban areas to monitor traffic conditions and alert travelers of any potential hazardous situations. The system employed a series of sequential warning lights along with overhead illumi-markers and flashing danger panels. The automatic safety system would also notify Traffic Central of any problematic issues, so they could determine a course of resolution.
