Blast plate

Blast plates, also known as blast shields, were protective plates that absorbed the back-blast from a starfighter's ion engines. They were used extensively on the hangar deck of the corvette FarStar. Some of the plates were positioned to protect the entrance to the turbolifts. Diamond boron missiles were equipped with blast plates constructed of diamond and boron. During flight, these blast plates extended outward and protected the missile from incoming laser cannon fire.
