Brass

Brass was an artificial metal, a copper-zinc alloy that contained up to 40% zinc. Its color ranged from yellow to red. Brass not only resisted corrosion, but it was also a good conductor of electricity and heat. It was used for bed frames, etching, jewelry, and stamping. Fancy objects made of brass ranged from plates to sliding doors. The first models of Lovolan's R-10 household droid were decorated with antique brass fittings; later, more subdued, modules, only had a decorative brass rail. The TT-8L/XSS droid was plating in antique brass. Both droids saw extensive use on the resort moon Hesperidium.

"Brass" was also a term for commanding officers.
