The Chaos Triangle was a location. In 8 ABY, after the death of the Storm-hair warlord Nuso Esva during a battle between his forces and the Empire of the Hand on the Unknown Regions planet Quethold, Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn ordered Senior Captain Voss Parck to travel with the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Admonitor to the Chaos Triangle, where Parck would begin cleaning up what the Grand Admiral referred to as Esva's "legacy."
