Comm repeaters were used to pick up and boost the range of communications networks. Shortly before the Battle of Yavin, the Imperial Prefect of Tatooine, Eugene Talmont, ordered the addition of a number of comm repeaters to Mos Eisley. The repeaters were encoded for use by the local military and militia forces. ASP-7 labor droids such as ASP-704 were tasked with installing them.
