A creativity damper or creative damper was a device that was installed in droids. Used alongside behavioral inhibitor circuits and software, creativity dampers were meant to keep droids from reaching true self-awareness. Protocol droids required creativity dampers in order to ensure that their language translations were unembellished and accurate. Cybot Galactica was forced to install creativity dampers in their 3PO-series protocol droids. The droid I-5YQ had his creativity dampers removed.
