Cybernetic hibernation was a form of suspended animation that was used in the time before the invention of the hyperdrive. Space travelers used cybernetic hibernation for intra-system travel to avoid spending years or decades in transit between planets. The use of cybernetic hibernation ended once hyperdrive technology had become commonplace.
