An eel cage was an underwater torture device in which four electric eels were restrained by a set of binders to create a restraining device. The prisoner was placed inside the cage, and the electricity created by the eels prevented them from leaving. If the interrogator forced one of the eels inward, it struck the prisoner and sent a painful electric charge surging through them.
