A high-frequency transmitter was a communications device fitted. They were fitted to probe droids at the behest of Emperor Palpatine. High-frequency transmitters allowed probe droids to instantaneously transmit their findings back to the Galactic Empire to prevent any delay in information acquired by the droid. Mark III Merr-Sonn Defender Ion Mines were fitted with narrow-band high frequency transmitters to contact the mine's control station once the onboard ion cannon had disabled a target.
