An ion piston was a component within the ion drives of Storm IV Twin-Pod cloud cars and landspeeders such as the V-35 Courier. Ion pistons were susceptible to damage from small particles, such as sand. Along with other modifications, loosing the ion piston gave the engine around an extra 400 revs per second, increasing a cloud car's speed and acceleration.
