Mourning beads were a type of ceremonial beads worn by the Queen of the Naboo when a death was being mourned. They symbolized the tears of the planet Naboo's inhabitants. Queen Apailana notably wore such beads during the funeral of Senator Padmé Amidala in 19 BBY.
