Phoebos

Phoebos was a daring and rogue mechanic who, around a century before the Galactic Civil War, recreated the design of hand-drawn animal racing carts with modern technology for a whole new level of competition and risk. The design of the superfast prototype podracer replaced the cart with a repulsorpod and the animals with flaming jet engines, with a repulsorlift allowing the vehicle to hover.

The prototype was entered virtually untested into an event on the planet Malastare by the racer Gustab Wenbus, for whom Phoebos had designed the vehicle. The famous first experimental race ensured podracing's reputation as an incredibly dangerous and popular sport, with Wenbus going on to develop the practice and standardize Phoebos's design for podracers. Phoebos shared their name with the Phoebos Memorial Run, a podracing course that had been set up by around 10 BBY.
