A vapor sampler was a piece of equipment used in demolitions work, particularly to detect hidden explosives. It worked by sampling the air that it was passed through, analyzing it for trace elements left behind by certain chemical compounds that were used to create bombs. Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi used a vapor sampler when searching for core bombs while aboard the Aurorient Express in 38 BBY.
