Garbage Compactor 3263827

Garbage Compactor 3263827 was a garbage compactor on the first Death Star where Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Princess Leia Organa were temporarily stranded after freeing Organa from Detention Block AA-23 in 0 BBY. "3263827" was a hatch number.

The magnetically sealed facility was filled with the remains of trash that had not yet been compacted. A knee-deep pool of muck covered the floor. In this dark fluid lived a dianoga, placed there to exterminate vermin. As the group frantically tried to escape, the dianoga grabbed Skywalker's legs and pulled him down under the liquid. Han tried desperately to shoot the beast but missed. After a few moment, the monster let Luke go and disappeared. However, a new danger arose when the walls of the compactor began steadily compressing, threatening to crush the group. Luke contacted C-3PO on his comlink, yelling for the droid to have the compactor shut down. 3PO frantically had R2-D2 disable all garbage compactors on the detention level of the Death Star, saving their friends.

It was a compactor of recyclable waste. It was destroyed when the Alliance attack on the battle station succeeded.
