Ion Cannon Control, otherwise referred to as Hoth ion battery control or simply ion control, oversaw the operation and firing of the v-150 Planet Defender ion cannon that protected the Alliance's Echo Base. Ion Cannon Control was staffed by twenty-seven personnel, all of which were natives of the planet Alderaan. Chief Controller Toryn Farr was responsible for issuing firing orders to Ion Cannon Control. An Alliance X-wing pilot escorting the Otana, a YT-2000 light freighter, during the Battle of Hoth, hailed ion control on the planet to fire upon two Imperial II-class Star Destroyers, including the Corrupter, that obstructed the escape path for the Azzameen-owned freighter. The V-150 fired a pair blue ion bolts which intercepted the Corrupter, hitting the bridge on its conning tower and the vessel's right deflector shield generator/sensor globe, disabling the captal ship. The crew fought ferociously against invading Imperial troops attempting to seize the ion cannon.
