The Lightspring was a natural site of incredible beauty and serenity that was located deep within the most desolate reaches of Tatooine, within the Dune Sea. Neither travelers nor hunters dared to enter this area which consisted of a huge cavern that contained massive pools of water, lit from below by a strange glow. This cast rippling shadows and reflections on the walls of the cavern. The area of the Lightspring was considered a holy site by the Sand People natives which was never to be disturbed or contaminated.

By the time of the Cold War, between the Sith Empire and Galactic Republic, the sanctity of the site had been desecrated by the crime lord Diago Hixan who claimed it as the seat of his criminal empire. Under his control, he filled the Lightspring cavern with numerous trinkets and baubles from his collection that turned this once pristine landmark into his own personal junkyard.

The search for Nok Drayen's treasure led a smuggler captain to Hixan's retreat in search for an artifact, with the ensuing confrontation leading to the crime lord's death.
