The Markaran Wastes, also known as Spire Swamp, was an area in the northern Markaran Plains on the planet Balmorra that became a toxic swamp after the Traken-4 ChemWorks plant on the area's northern edge was damaged during the Battle of Balmorra. It became a Balmorran resistance stronghold, with the Gold Neebray faction holding the area until the Sith Empire overran the area and took the ruins of Traken-4 for themselves.
