A number of munka mines on the planet Tatooine were owned by a miner and his family. Prior to the Battle of Endor, the mines were coveted by rival crime lords Jabba Desilijic Tiure and Lady Valarian. The Whiphid Valarian had tried to convince the family to sell the mines for years before Jabba the Hutt kidnapped the miner and held him for ransom.
