Niran was a world located within the Niran system, a part of the Outer Rim Territories' Tunka sector. It was the homeworld of the Human Viran Qol.
At some point by 3 ABY, Qol was enrolled in a civil engineering program on Niran. The day after his graduation, Niran was invaded by the Galactic Empire. Qol became involved with the Niran Resistance less than a week later and eventually became a major with the Rebel Alliance Special Forces.
