Bear McCreary is an Emmy Award–winning composer who scored the primary storyline that runs through the action-adventure virtual reality experience Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge.
For the project, McCreary aimed to create a soundtrack that felt as if it originated from the planet Batuu itself, and used acoustic textures such as guitars, simple woodwinds, tribal percussion, and bowed Middle Eastern string instruments to create an organic palette. For an alien aesthetic, Bear McCreary incorporated synthesizers and manipulated samples. Since Batuu was also a part of the wider Star Wars galaxy, McCreary also made use of symphonic techniques and colors used by John Williams throughout the main saga to "subtly root the player's experience in the broader mythology of the franchise." For "Tara's Theme," Bear McCreary emphasized exotic instruments such as the fujara, Renaissance German Hümmelchen bagpipes, frame drums, and dumbek.
