Jan Strnad (born 1950) is a writer of comics books and television. After starting out by penning various underground comics, he later worked for major publishers such as Marvel and DC.
When Strnad saw Star Wars in 1977, he felt a thrill that he hadn't experienced since Star Trek premiered in 1966. He got married that year and played "The Throne Room" as background music during the climax of the wedding ceremony. When he was hired to write Star Wars comics nearly twenty years later, he felt confident that he could add to a mythos that he loved. Although he enjoyed the experience, Strnad commented in 2022 that the Star Wars fandom had become meanspirited, cruel, misogynistic, and intolerant, and that he would rather work on a project with no fandom at all.
Strnad wrote a number of Star Wars comics for Dark Horse, including the six-issue story arc Prelude to Rebellion, which kicked off Dark Horse's prequel-era publishing initiative in December 1998. The six issues were the first six of a long-running comic series that was later named Star Wars: Republic. Strnad also penned the four-issue Season of Revolt arc for Dark Horse's 1995 Star Wars: Droids series, and he co-wrote eight issues of the X-Wing Rogue Squadron series with Michael A. Stackpole.
