John Romita Sr.

John Romita Sr. (January 24, 1930 – June 12, 2023) was the comic book penciller and cover artist for several issues of Marvel Comics' 1986 Star Wars: Droids series: Droids 1, Droids 2, and Droids 3. Romita also worked on Droids 4 and Droids 5. He created Kugg, the Ranger X-1 craft and the Destroyer.

In the 1950s, Romita worked for Stan Lee at Atlas Comics, the precursor to Marvel, on such titles as Captain America. A brief run at DC followed, and in 1965 he reunited with Lee under the new Marvel banner. There, he famously worked on The Amazing Spider-Man and designed the character of Mary Jane Watson. He later served as Marvel's Art Director.
