John Wayne (May 26, 1907 – June 11, 1979) was an American actor. Some of his old loop lines were used to make the voice of the character Garindan ezz Zavor in the 1977 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. Sound designer Ben Burtt had found the lines in the studio's trash and ran them through his synthesizer. Garindan's A New Hope voice was also reused for the video games LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy and LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga. Wayne's roles in Western films such as The Searchers and True Grit inspired the cantina scene and the character of Han Solo in A New Hope. His grandson Brendan Wayne also acted in Star Wars: The Mandalorian.
