The flatworm was a type of nonsentient worm. The primitive nervous system of the Swokes Swokes—a sentient humanoid species from the planet Makem Te of the Outer Rim Territories' Nilgaard sector who lacked receptors for the sense of touch and as a result were nearly impervious to pain—was more similar to that of flatworms than those of other sentient humanoid species.
