The garu-bear was a type of hibernating bear. When a freighter carrying the child Rey and her parents Dathan and Miramir emerged from hyperspace in Wild Space in 21 ABY, it hung momentarily in space like a garu-bear coming out of a long hibernation and taking stock of its surroundings.
