Manufactured by Sienar Fleet Systems, Onyx 2 was an Imperial Navy TIE/D Defender which was part of a limited production run of its class. The TIE/D Defender was an experimental starfighter, and as testing for its prototype indicated the need for a more powerful hyperdrive, such a hyperdrive was added to Onyx 2's production model. During the Galactic Civil War, Onyx 2 was part of the Imperial Onyx Squadron. The Defender's crew consisted of a TIE pilot. By 4 ABY, Onyx 2 was piloted by Yorr, a respected Imperial test pilot holding the rank of captain by that year.
