The Voyager Dawn was a medium-sized cruiser used by the Jedi Order during the High Republic Era, where it carried a meditation retreat for elder Jedi. After the Great Hyperspace Disaster, the Voyager Dawn took significant damage and required immediate assistance for the rescue of its hundreds of passengers.

During the reign of the Empire, the Jedi Tensu Run had made the cruiser an outpost he would visit in between missions, where several other older and wounded Jedi would be placed to be taken care of while Tensu is out on missions. At one point, Tensu Run returned to the cruiser to visit his master, Elan Rast, who gave Tensu adice on his role in the galaxy. The cruiser would be invaded by the Grand Inquisitor, who was informed of the Jedi's return to the vessel by Pii-lor, a cargo salvager who worked on the ship. Upon being detected, three Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptors would be deployed to defend the cruiser, however they were unsuccessful and the Imperials boarded the vessel in search of the Jedi Tensu Run. After interrogating Elan Rast, the Grand Inquisitor would be ambushed by five retired Jedi. The Grand Inquisitor would then fight and kill the retired Jedi aboard but was unable to retrieve any information about his target.
