The AA8 8-gauge scatter gun, alternatively stylized as the 8-gauge "AA8" scattergun, was a large-bore scattergun produced by Adostic Arms. Made of durable, lightweight composite alloys and plastics, its modern design reduced weight and ensured reliable operation. Firing a spray of inert steel pellets, the AA8 was equipped with an advanced semiautomatic firing system that used recoil to chamber the next shell. Intended as a civilian home-defense weapon, the AA8's limited range reduced odds of collateral damage or overpenetration. Suitable against home intruders, predators, and evasive rodents, the AA8 was also ideal for use aboard starships, kept near access hatches by smugglers to use against pirates or law enforcement who had disabled their transport.
Czerka Arms manufactured the Model 4 "Thunderhead" scattergun as a competitor to the AA8. Unlike the AA8's large-bore shell, the Model 4 used smaller shells and explosive pellets for lighter recoil, increased ammunition capacity, and a resulting smaller and overall easier-to-handle weapon.
