A bacta grenade was a long-range healing device that contained bacta, a type of synthetic healing fluid, which would be released when the grenade was activated and thrown. During combat, medics would throw the grenades near injured individuals who were out of reach of more conventional forms of healing. The grenades were made up of two halves that would separate in order for the bacta to spray out from the inside. One type of bacta grenade had gray halves, a red button on the top of one half, and a red light on the side of each half. Bacta grenades were used by medics serving the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War, a conflict between the Alliance and the Galactic Empire.
Sometime after the Battle of Yavin, bacta grenades were also used by Imperial and neutral medics.
Bacta bombs were larger, more powerful versions of the bacta grenade that were used around the same time.
